About the role:

Global Disability & Community Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Residential Care Officer to join our disability support team.

 

The successful applicant will provide person-centred care, supervision and support to people with disability living in supported residential accommodation. The role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, implementing individualised support programs, promoting independence and community participation, and supporting residents to achieve their personal goals.

 

This is a hands-on role requiring a compassionate, reliable and professional person who can work effectively with residents who may have complex support needs.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide direct care, supervision and support to residents living in supported accommodation.
  • Implement individualized support plans, behaviour support strategies and other approved support programs.
  • Assist residents with personal care and activities of daily living, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting and meal preparation where required.
  • Support residents to develop and maintain independent living and daily living skills.
  • Assist residents to participate in household, recreational, social and community activities.
  • Encourage residents to exercise choice, control and independence in their daily lives.
  • Observe and identify changes in residents’ physical, emotional, behavioural and social wellbeing.
  • Report changes in residents’ support needs, behaviour, health or circumstances to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Assist with the implementation of individualized developmental, educational and support programs.
  • Support residents to access community facilities, services and recreational activities.
  • Implement positive behaviour support strategies in accordance with individual behaviour support plans.
  • Respond appropriately to behaviours of concern and incidents in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate daily progress notes, case notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with families, guardians, managers, support staff and relevant health and allied health professionals.
  • Promote and maintain the dignity, privacy, safety and well-being of residents.
  • Comply with NDIS requirements, organizational policies, safeguarding requirements, work health and safety procedures and relevant legislation.

About You:

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare or a related field; or
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in disability or residential care consistent with the requirements of the position.
  • Previous experience supporting people with disability, preferably within a residential, supported accommodation or community care environment.
  • Experience providing person-centred support and implementing individualised support plans.
  • Ability to support people with complex needs and/or behaviours of concern.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong understanding of dignity, choice, privacy, independence and safeguarding.
  • Ability to work a flexible roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays where required.

Essential Requirements:

  • The entry requirement for this occupation is an AQF Diploma, Certificate in Disabilities or higher qualification, or at least 2 years relevant experience. In some instances, relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification

  • Up to date Australian Federal Police Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Relevant background checks as required by the organization
